TPV Granules

TPV Granules consist of two main components, plastic, as the continuous phase, and rubber, as the dispersed phase. Usually the rubber needs to be combined with a softening oil or plasticizer with it. Vulcanizing agents and some auxiliary additives are also essential. In addition, some inorganic fillers are filled in order to reduce the cost or to improve the performance of certain aspects.

TPV Granules can be formed between many plastics and rubbers, but only a few blends are of practical value after dynamic vulcanization, and the commercial ones are PP/PE/EPDM, PP/NBR, PP/ACM, and PS/SEBS. 99 rubber/plastic blends prepared from 11 rubbers and 9 plastics were reviewed in the book Thermoplastic Elastomers by Chemical Press, and it was found that to obtain the best performance rubber/thermoplastic dynamically vulcanized blends, the following conditions must be met: (1) the surface energies of the two polymers, plastic and rubber, are matched; (2) the length of the rubber entangled molecular chains is low; and (3) the crystallinity of the plastic is greater than 15%. When the polarity or surface energy difference between plastic and rubber is relatively large, add a suitable compatibilizer, and then dynamic vulcanization, you can also get excellent performance of the blends.
