The new thermoplastic elastomer technology of injection molded flexible skin (IMSS) is an innovative solution for lightweight, green and comprehensive cost-saving automotive interior skins. The commonly used vinyl chloride (PVC) enameling technology, whose chlorine tends to evaporate at elevated temperatures and pollute the air inside the car, is gradually being replaced by TPV extension molding technology with IMSS technology. Compared with PVC, IMSS injection molding capacity increased by 5 times, can effectively reduce the overall cost of production, and the product is more in line with the diversified modeling requirements of automotive interiors, with higher shock absorption, impact resistance, heat insulation, insulation and other properties.
Dawnprene IMSS TPE materials are based on specialty high flow SEBS to develop a thermoplastic elastomer that can be injection molded into automotive interior skins that have the following characteristics compared to traditional PVC-lined skins:
- High melt flow rate (200MFR);
- The lowest density of any major skin material available;
- Higher abrasion resistance and durability;
- Physical properties exhibit little or no anisotropy;
- Maintains good flexibility at low temperatures, with brittle-tough transition temperatures as low as -40°C;
- No cross-linking, no phthalate plasticizers;
- Ultra-low or no oil filling, matte finish, no visible fusion marks, moldable high-level textured surfaces
