The coating industry is the largest user of titanium dioxide, especially rutile titanium dioxide, most of which is consumed by the coating industry. Coatings made with titanium dioxide have bright colors, high covering power, strong coloring power, provincial dosage, many varieties, and can play a protective role in the stability of the medium, and can enhance the mechanical strength and adhesion of the paint film, prevent cracks, prevent ultraviolet light and moisture transmission, and extend the life of the paint film.

The plastics industry is the second largest user of titanium dioxide. Adding titanium dioxide to plastics can improve the heat resistance, light resistance, and weather resistance of plastic products, improve the physical and chemical properties of plastic products, enhance the mechanical strength of products, and extend their service life.

The paper industry is the third largest user of titanium dioxide, as a paper filler, mainly used in high-grade paper and thin paper. Adding titanium dioxide to paper can make paper with good whiteness, good luster, high strength, thin and smooth, no penetration when printing, and light quality. Titanium dioxide for paper is generally used without surface treatment of anatase titanium dioxide, which can play the role of fluorescent whitening agent to increase the whiteness of the paper. However, laminated paper requires the use of surface-treated rutile titanium dioxide to meet the requirements of light and heat resistance.

Titanium dioxide is used in the rubber industry both as a coloring agent and as a reinforcing, anti-aging and filling agent. Adding titanium dioxide to white and colored rubber products, it is sunlight resistant, non-cracking, non-discolored, and stretching rate is greater than acid and alkali resistance under sunlight. Titanium dioxide for rubber, mainly used in automobile tires as well as rubber shoes, rubber flooring, gloves, sports equipment, etc., generally based on anatase titanium dioxide. Often in the production of automotive tires to add a certain amount of rutile titanium dioxide to enhance ozone and UV resistance.

The ink containing titanium dioxide is durable and non-discoloring, with good surface wettability and easy dispersion. The titanium dioxide used in the ink industry has rutile and anatase types.

Titanium dioxide for chemical fiber is mainly used as matting agent. Because anatase is softer than rutile, anatase is generally used. Titanium dioxide for chemical fiber generally does not require surface treatment, but some special varieties need surface treatment in order to reduce the photochemical effect of titanium dioxide and avoid the degradation of fibers in the role of titanium dioxide photocatalysis.

Since titanium dioxide is non-toxic and far superior to lead white, various fragrance powders almost all use titanium dioxide to replace lead white and zinc white. Fragrance powder only need to add 5%-8% of titanium dioxide can get permanent white, so that the fragrance more slippery, adhesion, absorption and covering power. In the water powder and cold cream titanium dioxide can reduce the greasy and transparent feeling. Titanium dioxide is also used in various other fragrances, sunscreens, soap flakes, white soap and toothpaste.
