Polyethylene terephthalate is the most important variety of thermoplastic polyester, the English name of Polythylene terephthalate referred to as PET or PETP (hereinafter or PET), commonly known as polyester resin. It is a condenser of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol, which together with PBT is collectively referred to as thermoplastic polyester, or saturated polyester. PET is a milky white or light yellow highly crystalline polymer with a smooth and shiny surface. Good creep resistance, fatigue resistance, friction resistance and dimensional stability, small wear and high hardness, with the largest toughness in thermoplastics; Good electrical insulation performance, little influence by temperature, but poor corona resistance. Non-toxic, weather resistance, good stability against chemicals, low water absorption, resistance to weak acids and organic solvents.

PET has the following advantages:
1. Good mechanical properties, impact strength is 3~5 times of other films, good folding resistance.
2. Resistant to oil, fat, acid, alkali and most solvents.
3. The heat resistance of pure PET is not high, and the thermal deformation temperature is only about 85℃, but it is greatly improved after enhanced treatment. The mechanical properties of PET reinforced by glass fiber are similar to those of PC, PA and other engineering plastics, and the thermal deformation temperature can reach 225℃. PET has good heat aging resistance, embritculation temperature of -70℃, and still has certain toughness at -30℃; PET is not easy to burn, the flame is yellow, and the burning oil drips.
4. Low permeability of gas and water vapor, excellent air resistance, water, oil and odor performance.
5. High transparency, UV blocking, good gloss.
6. Non-toxic, tasteless, good health and safety, can be directly used in food packaging.

The glass transition temperature of PET resin is high, the crystallization speed is slow, the molding cycle is long, the molding cycle is long, the molding shrinkage rate is large, the dimensional stability is poor, the crystallization molding is brittle, the heat resistance is low.
Through the improvement of nucleating agents as well as crystallization agents and glass fiber reinforcement, PET has the following characteristics in addition to the properties of PBT.
1. The thermal deformation temperature and long-term service temperature are the highest among thermoplastic general engineering plastics
2. Because of high heat resistance, enhanced PET is immersed in a solder bath at 250℃ for 10S, almost no deformation and no color change, especially suitable for the preparation of electronic and electrical parts of tin welding:
3. The bending strength is 200MPa, the elastic modulus is 4000MPa, the creep resistance and fatigue resistance are also very good, the surface hardness is high, and the mechanical properties are similar to those of thermoset plastics.
4. Because the price of ethylene glycol used in the production of PET is almost half cheaper than that of butanediol used in the production of PBT, PET resin and reinforced PET are the lowest price among engineering plastics and have a high cost performance
