Product Description

Starch Modification of PBAT
PBAT has excellent ductility and fast molding speed, which can give it better processing performance; PBAT and polyethylene (PE) performance is similar, so it is more often used in film bag products, but PBAT's own draft strength, film openability and other properties are weaker than PE, and the cost is higher than PE, so it must be modified by blending, Modified PBAT Materials can effectively reduce costs and improve product performance.
Advantages: starch decomposes efficiently in a composting environment and can be completely biodegraded without any microplastic residue, making it the best material to deal with white pollution.
Disadvantages: starch itself is poorly malleable, and there are inter- and intra-molecular hydrogen bonds, with some crystallization properties.
Solution: When using starch filling, the starch needs to be treated beforehand, and the starch powder is made into easy-to-add granules by adding cross-linking agents and plasticizers to facilitate its modification of PBAT in order to obtain PBAT/starch blends with good overall performance.
Some companies use corn starch and polybutylene terephthalate (PBAT) as the main raw materials, glycerol as the main plasticizer and sorbitol, polyvinyl alcohol 200 (PEG200) and dimethyl formamide as the auxiliary plasticizers to make starch-filled PBAT films by extruder granulation and then blow molding. It is concluded that the better the plasticizing effect of starch, the more uniform the particle size distribution will be, the smaller the surface roughness of the film, and the higher the tensile strength, pendulum impact strength and elongation at break of the film.
