Biodegradable PBAT Granules, with the full name of polybutylene terephthalate-adipate, can be divided into bio-based biodegradable materials and petrochemical-based biodegradable materials according to the source of biodegradable plastics, PBAT belongs to petrochemical-based biodegradable plastics, which is one of the most active biodegradable materials in the research and market application of biodegradable plastics.
PBAT is a kind of polyester, polyester = diacid + diol, polyester category also contains PBS, PBSA, PBT, as shown below.
• PBAT: Polybutylene terephthalate-adipate
• PBT: Polybutylene terephthalate
• PBS: Polybutylene succinate
• PBSA: Polybutylene succinate adipate
B for Butanediol, T for Terephthalicacid, A for Adipicacid, S for Succinic acid.
PBAT is made from 1,4-butanediol (BDO), adipic acid (AA), terephthalic acid (PTA) or diol terephthalate (DMT) by direct esterification or ester exchange method. PBAT is a semi-crystalline polymer with a crystallization temperature around 110°C, a melting point around 130°C and a density between 1.18g/ml and 1.3g/ml. The crystallinity of PBAT is about 30% and the Shore hardness is above 85.
